I painted Mama Maui after taking an amazing trip to the Island with my dive buddy and his wife who have become great friends of mine. They had gotten married on the island and visited annually ever since. I was lucky enough to join them for an unforgettable journey that was honestly life changing. While scuba diving Mala pier alongside the reef sharks we had the opportunity to capture images of the turtles referenced in this painting. Mama Maui herself is painted in the likeness of the bride. This trip inspired me to capture the beauty and overwhelming serenity of the moments I was blessed with during our time there.
Mama Maui has been struck with a devastating tragedy and really needs all of our help. This is why I want to donate all proceeds of this piece to help aid those who've been affected by the disaster. I'm very grateful to have experienced the stunning beauty of this paradise and hope that sharing this artwork can help give back in this time of need. Whenever we're feeling like we're getting pulled under, drowning in sorrow, we need to pause and embrace the hope of a beautiful tomorrow. Lets look to the bright lights cascading through the rippling waters as a reminder that more sunny days will come.
